Becoming A Weight Loss Master
Here are some things you can do to become a weight loss master
Lighten up! Look for the absurdity in your life, it's all around
you. The Weight Loss Master
Becoming a weight loss master is a journey and a process. The path
to permanent weight
loss can be seen as an opportunity for self transformation and
discovery. Your weight problem can be viewed as a calling to have a
deeper, more satisfying life. Here are some things you can do to become
a weight loss master:
-
Practice acceptance. Accept the fact
that life is not fair. Challenges and change are a part of life.
-
Slow down and open yourself to life.
Learn to live in the moment.
-
Appreciate yourself. Give yourself
pats on the back for all the things you do right.
-
Free yourself from thinking you
should look, be, and feel a certain way. Don't should on yourself!
-
Choose your own attitude. Choose to
be happy right now.
-
Practice gratitude. Keep a gratitude
journal.
-
Be patient. You didn't put the weight
on overnight. You won't lose it overnight.
-
Practice positive self talk. On bad
days just making it through the day is a success.
- Develop a sense of purpose. Tell
yourself, "I am here to learn all I can about weight loss so that I can
help myself and others to lead healthier, more productive lives." Everything you learn about successful weight loss
you can then teach to others. I have become an expert in weight and
life mastery. It turns out this is my calling. Maybe your weight
problem is calling you to something as well.
- Bloom where planted. Take
responsibility for your life. Get out of victim mode. Feeling like, and
acting like a victim just keeps you stuck in the problem. By doing any
of the things on this list you are taking action and empowering
yourself. Try to eliminate guilt and blame. These victimize you. While
it is helpful to figure out what may have contributed to your weight,
it is not helpful to beat yourself up about it. Blaming yourself or
others for your weight problem keeps you from owning your power and
taking responsibility for your life.
- Get inspired. Fill yourself up on a
steady diet of stories of people who have successfully lost weight.
Apply their weight loss solutions to your life. These stories cultivate
hope and are a source of motivation. The Internet is an excellent
source of stories and solutions that have helped others.
- Seek out support and give support to
others. Involve others in your weight loss goals. Get a coach. Join a
group. You don’t have to do it all alone. Successful weight loss
masters utilize the support of others.
- Lighten up. Learn to laugh. Reconnect
with your joyful, "thinner" child! Rediscover the things that used to
make you smile. Fill yourself up with wonder, not Wonder bread! Read
and watch humor, tell jokes. Look for the absurdity in your life, it's
all around you.
- Get perspective. Do you have a roof
over your head? Do you have food to eat? People who care about you?
Many in this world do not. Don’t awfulize and obsess about your weight.
Being overweight is not the end of the world. It is not a moral
failure. Today, thousands of people are going to die. If you are still
alive at the end of the day then you are one of the lucky ones. As a
friend used to say, bad breath is better than no breath. It’s all how
you look at it.
- Get involved. Learn
a new hobby, craft, or volunteer. Seek out others who share your
interest to keep your focus off food and your weight. This will boost
your self-esteem, expand your social contacts, and give you a new lease
on life.
By choosing to look at your weight and the process of weight loss as
an
opportunity for growth and self transformation, you can learn to
cope better with change, reclaim your power, and become a stronger,
slimmer
person in the process.
