Starting A Weight Loss Program
Your weight loss journey is one of the most
important
journeys of your life. The Weight Loss Master
Ok, so you’ve told yourself, "This is it!" You're
ready to join
a weight loss program and start changing your life. You may be
currently reviewing different
wellness, diet and fitness programs to see what would work best for you
and find
yourself overwhelmed with the variety of choices out there.
There is no one best way to lose weight. People
find
success in a variety of different programs. The key is to find
something that is
realistic and sustainable for you in the long run. It shouldn’t require
that
you have to completely change your life around.
It also shouldn’t feel too strict and depriving.
This
will only lead you to rebel and start bingeing. It should feel like
something
you can sustain for the long haul. In other words it should look like a
permanent solution, not a temporary fix.
The best programs teach you how to make positive
lifestyle
changes so that you can maintain your weight loss. This is why diets
fail. They
work for weight loss but simply don’t teach you how to keep the weight
off.
Remember, anyone can lose weight, but it takes real skill to learn how
to keep
the weight off.
Before you join any weight loss or fitness program
you
should ask yourself some questions. Try to be completely honest with
yourself
when answering the following questions.
Do I like counting calories, and tracking my
weight, food,
and goals? Or do I like to take a less structured approach and just cut
back on
what I have been eating and start exercising more?
Do I have the discipline to work out at home? Or
do I need
to join a gym or take a class?
Will the program I’m considering fit into my
lifestyle?
Is it something I can manage long-term or does it feel too strict and
depriving
to maintain the rest of my life?
Does this program teach me how to make lifestyle
changes or
is it just a temporary diet? If it
is a temporary diet, how am I going to sustain the changes after I lose
the
weight?
Do I need the support of a group or a buddy, or
can I
manage on my own?
Do I do better when I’m accountable to someone? Am
I
self-motivated and follow through on my goals fairly easily or do I
procrastinate if left on my own?
Am I willing to address the stressors in my life
that lead
me to emotional overeating?
Am I willing to learn new ways of meeting my needs
that are
non-food related?
Am I willing to do what it takes for this program
to be
successful?
Am I willing to set aside the time needed to
exercise?
Am I willing to reduce my stressors so that I can
implement
changes in my lifestyle?
Am I really willing to make this a top priority in
my life?
Am I truly ready to make a commitment to my
long-term
health and well-being?
Is this a good time in my life to start
implementing
changes? Or do I already have too
many changes going on in my life?
Honestly answering these questions will let you
know if you
are truly ready to make the necessary changes it will take to lose the
weight
for good. Halfhearted attempts at losing weight will only perpetuate a
feeling
of hopelessness and failure. Wait until you are truly ready to put your
heart, body and soul into losing weight. Your spirit will thank you for
it.
