Eating to Live: Food as Fuel - Issue #55

For many of us, food has been our entertainment, a hobby, a lifestyle, a friend, and a lover. If we are to overcome our overeating, we need to begin to see food for what it really is: fuel for our lives. We must learn to eat to live, not live to eat. We need to put food in its proper place in our lives as a source of vitality, health and vibrational energy.

How alive is the food that we’re eating? Is it filled with energy and vitamins or empty calories? If it is full of highly processed sugar, white flour and saturated fat, it’s a low vibration food. High vibrational foods are foods that are grown close to the sun, eaten close to their natural state and filled with life force energy. Foods that have the highest vibrational energy include: plant based foods such as fruits and vegetables, grains, chicken, fish, and meats, and fats from nuts, seeds, and avocados. The majority of our diet needs to be plant based with fish, chicken, or meat and small amounts of natural fats rounding out the diet. Of course, if we are a vegetarian or vegan the ratio won’t include animal foods.

There is room in a well-balanced diet for all types of food. Yes, some foods are much more nutritious than others and should be eaten far more often, but food is not good or bad, it just is. Follow the 80:20 Principle: 80% of our diet should be devoted to high vibrational foods, whole and unprocessed as possible; the other 20% is for splurges, treats, and other indulgences. Eating well is an act of self-love and nurturance. When we take the time to prepare healthy meals and exercise, our self-esteem increases. Our well-being and confidence increases and we feel empowered because we are acting on our own behalf. We’re affirming to ourselves that we matter. We start to feel less like a victim of our appetites, and more like a co-creator of our world.

We are what we eat. As we honor our natural hunger and fuel ourselves with vital healthy food, our moods and energy become more vital and positive as well. We find it easier to think and act in a positive manner. The positivity and energy builds on itself. We begin to think more clearly, and we come into a place of balance. Instead of riding the ups and downs of the diet roller coaster, we begin to find the middle ground and go with the flow of life, instead of struggling against it. We start to live and eat according to our natural rhythms and hunger, the way nature intended.

The more balanced our lives become, the easier it is to lose weight. When we are in balance, we are in alignment with what we truly want and need. We become “powerful attractors;” we are able to manifest what we want easily. This is the law of attraction at work. The law of attraction is a universal principal that states like attracts like. We need to become what we want to attract in life.

To begin, we need to act “as if” we already possess whatever it is that we want to attract into our life. When we radiate aliveness, abundance, and positive energy, we will naturally attract the things that are in alignment with that vibration. This is true whether it is a mate, a new job, money, or weight loss.

We create our reality from the inside out. Our outer reality is a reflection of our internal state. This doesn’t mean we simply think new thoughts or repeat some affirmations and expect our weight to melt away like magic. It’s not that easy! We must back up new thoughts, insights and awareness with the necessary actions that will get us where we want to go.

In the case of weight loss, this means eating less, moving more, and engaging in good self-care. Even though we are spiritual beings, in this lifetime, we are in a body and are subject to the physical laws of the universe, as well as the spiritual laws.
