It all boils down to this... - Issue #49
December 17, 2013

Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.
Tony Robbins

Overeaters are the great dabblers of the world. Most of us have tried many diets and quit. Some of us have trouble permanently committing to anything. We may have a long trail of incomplete projects, jobs, or even relationships that we have tried and left behind. But without our full commitment, we can never fully recover from emotional eating and achieve permanent weight loss. Openness, willingness, self-honesty, and commitment are the keys to permanent weight loss. We must be willing to do the work one day, one moment at a time. In the past, we were looking for a softer, easier way. After years of failed dieting attempts, hopefully we realize there is none. If we want to achieve our goals, we must be willing to put in the time and effort.

We must view this as a new way of life; not as a diet to go off of. We aren’t required to eat perfectly. All that is required is that we try our best each day. Some days will be better than others. Without our full commitment, we will quit as soon as we have a bad day or hit an obstacle. Our willingness to hang in there when the going gets tough keeps us moving forward on the path.

It truly all boils down to this: Just how willing are we to deal with life on life’s terms?

Dealing with life on life’s terms means being willing to feel uncomfortable emotions and endure uncomfortable situations without turning to food for comfort. It means being willing to stop avoiding life and take on the challenges that will enable us to grow. It means getting real and honest about how we feel about ourselves and our lives, and being willing to make the necessary changes, so that we can live a life that reflects our innermost values. It means being willing to be present and truly showing up in our lives as an eager participant. This requires letting go of the excuses that keep us stuck and start taking full responsibility for our behavior, health and happiness. It also means being willing each day to choose behaviors that support our health and fitness goals.

Today, I decide to quit dabbling and get serious about myself and my life. If I want the gold, I must work for it.

Higher Power, please give me the willingness to do the work that is necessary to reach my goal.

  • What we call the secret of happiness is no more a secret than our willingness to choose life.
    ― Leo Buscaglia
  • Most people don't have that willingness to break bad habits. They have a lot of excuses and they talk like victims.
    ― Carlos Santana

  • The willingness to accept responsibility for one's own life is the source from which self-respect springs.
    ― Joan Didion
  • It doesn't matter how much you want. What really matters is how much you want it. The extent and complexity of the problem does not matter as much as does the willingness to solve it.

Is emotional eating keeping you from losing weight and living the life you want? Are you ready to get off the diet rollercoaster and master your weight and your life?

If so, you may be a candidate for coaching. Coaching can make the difference between success and failure.

I have found that people who struggle with food and emotional eating are released from that prison once they learn the skills of mindful awareness and mindful eating, emotional self-nurturing, developing a spiritual or meditation practice, and learning to set appropriate limits and goals.

This turns off the urge to overeat and engage in other compulsive behaviors. When you feel better, you eat better! I have walked this path myself, and it has led me to peace and freedom.

The goal of my coaching is to create a lighter, balanced, healthier, nourishing and joy-filled life. You will begin to see results in all areas of your life because How You do Food is How You do Life!®

I coach and mentor people in the areas of: permanent weight loss, food addiction, compulsive, emotional overeating, binge eating recovery, creative self expression, spiritual direction, mindfulness, meditation, self care and stress management, self esteem and body image issues.

Note: My work is spiritually focused, not religious, and fits with any belief system you may have, even agnostic. My work assumes that you have all the wisdom and answers you need inside of you.

What you call this place -- God, intuition, Higher Power, inner wisdom, or true self -- is up to you. I am simply a guide bringing you back to the truths that are already inside of you.
