Let's choose love!


Self-love and self-acceptance are the foundations of real and lasting change. Feel the love, lose the weight!

Losing weight and overcoming overeating can seem like a daunting task. But the truth is all we have to do is start where we are. It's a one day, one moment at a time deal. As long as we stay focused on that, the rest will take care of itself.

Many of us believe that if we don't crack the whip over ourselves and shame ourselves into submission, nothing much will happen. Self-abuse is never a good motivator for change. In fact, it makes us feel rebellious and we act out in the form of self-sabotage.

Self-acceptance of where we're at is the first step to change. We cannot change what we can't accept. We don't have to like where we're at, but we need to accept it in order to move forward. Acceptance means we are dealing with our reality, and facing ourselves and lives as they are, not how we would like them to be. We are meeting life on life's terms, not ours.

Most of us tell ourselves that we will accept and love ourselves after we lose the weight, when we look and feel acceptable again. But what about in the meantime? If while were waiting for this event to occur, we treat ourselves poorly, we find ourselves unmotivated, miserable, rebellious, and the whole process backfires on us and we never arrive at this place of self-acceptance.

Even if we do manage to lose the weight, often we find it's not enough, for we haven't learned to truly love ourselves, we are simply loving the outside and we're still stuck with the shaming, critical and insecure part of us that we thought would go away once we lost the weight! In fact, now it's finding all kinds of new things to focus on and pick us apart about.

You see, it never really was about the weight. We simply projected our self-hatred and insecurities onto our bodies, and thought that was what needed to change. Sure, it's nice to look better, but it's not much of a victory if we still feel ugly, frightened and insecure on the inside. It's like putting a band-aid on a gaping wound!

The truth is there's no escaping ourselves. Sooner or later we have to face the music. It might as well be now.

Yes, right now we can choose to end the struggle. It's our choice. We can decide to treat ourselves with the love and kindness that we deserve. Each day we can make a vow to take better care of ourselves and speak to ourselves using words of kindness and encouragement, instead of harsh judgment and criticism. When we do this, we begin to bloom like flowers from the sunshine and warmth of our own love.

Each time we hear ourselves talking mean and harshly to ourselves, we can replace those words with positive affirmations. The word affirmation means to "make firm." Firm thinking leads to firm thighs! When we choose love and acceptance, we come into alignment with our true source of power.

Love is the source of true growth and change. Love will propel us forward. It has the ability to cancel out fear. Trying to change from a place of fear does not work! It keeps us stuck in the problem. Love is what truly transforms us.
